Is this painting going to be OF something, i.e. descriptive, observational only, or is it going to be ABOUT more than this, suggestive or evoking something beyond the object to be painted?
Is this a horse (sorry, yet another) or more than just a horse? Something about movement, wind, childhood fantasy, animal awareness etc?
Photographs can sometimes achieve this suggestivity. Paintings may (strive)continually do so through the personality and craftsmanship of the artist. Perhaps this is the difference between the camera lens and the production through painting/drawing of the eye/soul/mind. Though really good photographers, of course, can get it right. Don Maculin photographs at Hauser and Worth at the moment, for example.
